【Dynamic】 This way to make hydrogen, the global installation will reach 290 million kilowatts!

Recently, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released the "Global Hydrogen Energy Review 2022" report, saying that the global hydrogen energy industry has shown a high rate of expansion under the influence of factors such as the fight against climate change, the surge in fossil fuel prices and the increased risk of energy supply. 2021, global hydrogen energy demand has reached a record high of 94 million tons. Meanwhile, with countries actively introducing hydrogen energy support policies, the global installed capacity of hydrogen production from electrolytic water is expected to exceed 1.4 million kilowatts by the end of this year, more than tripling from 2021. In the IEA's view, hydrogen from renewable energy sources, such as hydrogen from renewable energy, is gaining unprecedented momentum, spurred by high fossil fuel prices.

The broadening of hydrogen downstream application scenarios has played an important role in boosting demand for hydrogen, with IEA statistics showing that the global stock of fuel cell vehicles had exceeded 51,000 by the end of 2021, up more than 50% from 33,000 at the end of 2020, a record high. The IEA says that transport has become the sector where hydrogen applications are expanding most rapidly. In addition to this, in 2021, several companies around the world have announced that they will use pure hydrogen for steelmaking. In the same period, a number of countries have also begun trials of hydrogen fuel cell trains, and the shipping industry has seen more than 100 pilot projects for hydrogen and its derivative fuels. In addition, IEA statistics show that in the power sector, there are already announced plans for 3.5 million kilowatts of hydrogen and ammonia-fuelled power generation capacity worldwide by 2030.

The IEA forecasts that the global installation of hydrogen production from electrolytic water, although only around 500,000 kW in 2021, will reach 290 million kW by 2030, stimulated by various factors. At the same time, the global annual capacity of hydrogen production electrolyzers is expected to exceed 60 million kilowatts by 2030, about seven times more than at present.
